How It Works
For one flat, monthly fee, Pointivity takes care of IT for you with our OnDemand service. Pointivity OnDemand connects your computer, Windows-based terminal, networked computer and handheld personal computing devices to our data center, which securely hosts your virtual desktop and company data.
OnDemand, which others may reference as “Software as a Service” or “Application Service Providers” assumes total responsibility for a majority of your IT needs, including:
- Server management
- Software licensing and updates
- Data backup
- Spam filtering
- Security, including virus protection and intrusion detection
So How Does It Really Work?
All of your applications and data are hosted at our data center, and your PC, network terminal or PDA becomes a "window" to the server hosting these applications and data.
Through a secure Internet log in screen, you access your personal, virtual desktop and all of the applications and company data you have saved there.
The technology employed by Pointivity has the unique ability to separate application logic from the user interface. So, on your end, you see and work with the application's interface, but 100 percent of the application executes on the server. Only your keystrokes, mouse clicks, screen updates and audio are being transmitted across the network.
These applications consume just a fraction of the network bandwidth usually required, enabling the newest, most powerful 32-bit applications to be accessed with exceptional performance from existing hardware. And just a small piece of client software – which is loaded only once – is used to access all applications offered by Pointivity.
